Broadway Dental Celebrates Dental Hygiene Month, Growing Team

DENISON, IA - The team at Broadway Dental currently has two reasons to tout dental hygiene. Not only did they recently add yet another hygienist to their staff, but they are also celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month in October.

Abby Svendsen becomes the sixth hygienist to join Broadway Dental. Abby is a native of Harlan, Iowa and recently graduated from Iowa Western Community College in affiliation with Creighton Dental School. Abby stated she is proud to start her career at Broadway Dental and build relationships with the people in Denison.

Abby joins a team of highly skilled and experienced Broadway Dental hygienists, including Glenda Mahaney, Stephanie Dutler, Kristina Dotzler, Jill Miller and Jordan Moore. Glenda has been a hygienist for an impressive 34 years and was on staff when Broadway Dental officially opened its doors in 1981. Stephanie recently celebrated her 15th year anniversary as a Broadway Dental hygienist.

The staff is also using Dental Hygiene Month to spotlight and stress the overall importance of dental hygienists and the day-to-day preventative services, care and advice they offer. Broadway Dental hygienists perform a wide array of services including checking for signs of gum disease and signs of oral cancer, the application of sealants and fluorides and advising patients on daily oral care methods. Due to the success of many such preventative measures, the expanding older population will retain their teeth longer and will be more aware of the importance of dental care.

"Our hygienists play such a critical role in the daily dental and preventative care of our patients to ensure their long-term dental health," said Dr. Kristi Ouderkirk-Bock. "We are pleased to further strengthen our team with the addition of Abby and highlight our entire staff of hygienists this month."
